White glove service with a mission — RISMedia
Josh and Jen McConnell had no idea, when they attended the same high school in South Carolina, that they would one day meet and marry in Charleston and create a concierge-style real estate team, McConnell Real Estate Partners (Chsestates. com) representing the high end homes in Greater Charleston and its neighboring islands.
Their paths diverged after graduation, with Josh pursuing an MBA at Clemson University while Jen studied marketing at Ashland University in Ohio. Later, as Jen pursued her passion for real estate while still a student, Josh began a career in international finance.
But as the fairy tales tell, love blossomed when their paths met a decade later in Charleston, and they married in 2010. Jen continued her career in real estate, investing and buying the couple’s first home while Josh was traveling overseas on business.
Life took another turn when their daughter, Bennett, was born in 2016, then again with the birth of son Bodhi in 2017 – and in April this year the couple launched Isle of Palms, SC, currently a team of five with a promise of personal service at the highest level and a personal quest to help support pediatric cancer research.
Barbara Pronin: What changed your direction after Bennett was born?
Josh McConnell: On the one hand, we knew it was time for me to stop traveling. We had already started a residential real estate investment company and Jen was receiving honors at Keller Williams for her accomplishments as a top agent and luxury home specialist. So we decided to join forces and launch our real estate partnership.
PA: And then came your son, Bodhi.
Jen McConnell: Yes, and at five months Bodhi was diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma. It was a big blow, but by the grace of God and after four rounds of chemotherapy he was diagnosed cancer free – and we started the Foundation McConnell to raise awareness and funds for MUSC Children’s Hospital and pediatric cancer research. We held a gala dinner dance to raise funds in June, and a portion of each agency commission is set aside for this purpose. So far we have been able to donate over $50,000.
BP: This is a powerful motivator for your whole team. As leaders, how do you distribute the workload?
Jen McC: Josh, as COO, is also a licensed agent. With me as lead broker, we co-manage the team, which currently includes two other sales agents and a transactional concierge. We also have an external marketing team and a roster of photographers and videographers on call, as our goal as a concierge agency is to provide the ultimate in service, expertise and professionalism to our buyers. and very special sellers.
PA: What exactly does concierge service mean?
Josh McC: In addition to being there for them 24/7, we provide unique amenities to our customers, such as a free moving truck to help with their transitions – a truck we make available to schools and local churches when not needed for a movement. We’ll be delivering treats to homes over the holidays and are planning a fun pop-up with local artisans at our Isle of Palms office in the fall.
Jen McC: Part of our goal is also to ensure the success and well-being of our agents. Each is exceptional in their own right and they are truly part of our family. We often meet as a team, but we’re also here to provide one-on-one coaching and encouragement when they need it, and to act as an objective third party when issues need to be resolved.
Josh Mc: Essentially, we encourage our agents to find their own ways, but they know we’re always available to help them when they need us.
PA: What types of properties do you typically represent?
Jen McC: We list and sell properties all over Greater Charleston, but specialize in high-end waterfront and island properties that number in the millions. We also have a clientele of active investors. Charleston is an attractive destination and island life is idyllic. The Isle of Palms, where we live, for example, boasts six miles of white-sand beaches, world-class golf, tennis and resort, and some of the most elite addresses on the American coast.
PA: Today, you are a whole new team. Are you looking to grow in the short term?
Josh McC: Selectively, yes, as our business grows. We’ve waited a long time to jump in and take over our world, and our goals are very clear. There is always a place for an agent who is dedicated to exceptional customer service.
Jen Mc: We’ve been very lucky in so many ways, and we’re all about relationships. Two of my best friends today are former clients – and I think our mission statement says it all. Our wish is to leave a legacy that enriches the lives of our team members, our customers and our community for generations to come.
