You’ll need a salt shaker to live in the planned Texas Margaritavilles
Texas parrotheads may soon have a chance to live like Jimmy Buffett.
A Florida developer building Margaritaville-themed communities is expanding into Texas, seeking locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Austin area.
Tampa-based Minto Communities USA intends to build residential projects for residents age 55 and older who want to spend their golden years “wasting away in Margaritaville again.”
“Latitude Margaritaville has redefined the way pre-active and active retirement living is viewed forever with a combination of world-class amenities and island-inspired villas, single-family homes and cottages,” said Scott Rogers, vice president of Minto, in a statement.
Based in Dallas, Rogers runs Minto under license for the Margaritaville brand.
He is looking for sites for resort-themed projects.
“Locations are carefully considered and must meet specific criteria to be selected for a community, including sufficient land; a temperate climate; proximity to an airport; convenient retail and service businesses, as well as nearby doctors’ offices and hospitals,” Rogers said. “Another very important factor is the convenient access to exceptional leisure activities in the surrounding area. Dallas, Austin and Houston definitely meet those criteria.
So far, three Latitude Margaritaville communities have been built near Daytona Beach and Panama City Beach, Florida, and near Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Communities with single-family homes and smaller “villas” include resort-style pools, fitness centers, shows, restaurants and beverages in Margaritaville and provides residents with arts and learning programs so residents can “strike my six strings on the swing set of my porch.
Most homes in Florida communities cost between $250,000 and $450,000, depending on size and location.
“The Margaritaville brand has a strong foundation in Texas,” Jim Wiseman, president of development at Margaritaville, said in a statement. “The state represents a tremendous opportunity as we expand community development in Latitude Margaritaville. We look forward to bringing our iconic lifestyle to the Southwest.
